Stray animals

Collection, fines & rehoming

Stray animals are handed into us by dog wardens and members of the public. We hold them for seven days but if they have not been claimed after that then they will be signed over to the Home and be eligible for rehoming.

We always check for a microchip, and add as a found animal on Pets Located and Animal Search UK to try to locate an owner.

For dogs, Local Authorities impose a fine which you must pay before claiming your animal. Payment is upon collection by card or cash. We never ask for payment over the phone or transfer before you come in.

  • Wiltshire. If your dog arrives via a Wiltshire Dog Warden, there is a minimum charge of £75 increasing each day that the dog is unclaimed.
  • Bath & NES. There is a fixed fee of £100 for any dog found straying in Bath & North East Somerset.

» For more information about stray dog fines and collections, please visit the Local Authority websites for Wiltshire Council and Bath and North East Somerset Council.

We do not charge for stray cats or small pets, but a donation would be appreciated.

What to bring with you

To collect you will need two forms of ID (a photo ID and a recent utility bill showing your address) and proof of ownership.
